SALEM VAN DER SWAAGH
Salem van der Swaagh is a textile designer who crafts home goods that are rich in texture and ingenuity.
Salem’s work stems from the belief that hand-weaving is a potent vehicle for communicating and connecting to the immediate environment that surrounds us. Her pieces utilize 100% reclaimed remnant material from several European industrial weaving textile mills. Salem uses the reclaimed material and through the craft of hand weaving she is able to repurpose it as highly textured, luxurious rugs and pillows.
The tactility of Salem’s pieces are a direct result of weaving with her cousin Sam, who is legally blind due to ocular albinism. Together, they developed pieces that are highly tactile and technically simple to weave, but are elevated by the decision to focus on the nuances and subtleties of using a muted color palette. In the broadest sense, Salem’s work aims to bring to light the very human process of creating.
Radnor is thrilled to showcase a collection of Salem’s rugs and pillows.
