TOSHIHIKO YOSHIMOTO
Based in Shiga, Japan, Toshihiko Yoshimoto uses the unique soil from the local area in order to hand build and form his ceramic works. Drawing on his practice of creating objects from reliefs of natural materials such as wood and stone, Yoshimoto was inspired to create a series of planters that echo the natural expression of the earth, such as the cracks in the soil. The qualities of the coarse local clay allows for prime water absorption and air permeability, creating an optimal environment for plants to thrive.
The Shigaraki Works, named for the Japanese city famed for its pottery where Yoshimoto practices, are created exclusively for Radnor and are Yoshimoto’s largest-scale works to date.
